Deepavali Sweets and Hots

దీపావళి తీపి, హాట్స్

Deepavali in a Telugu house is lamps first, then the tins. Kajjikayalu are eaten whole, coconut or dry fruit inside, with tea. Panchadara laddu is the plain sweet at the end of the row. Bellam laddu if the house is keeping jaggery. Gavvalu and nei mysore pak come out when guests sit. The hots — chakralu, chegodilu, karapoosa, mixture — are the tin that stays after the sweets are finished.

Do not store a fresh laddu in the same closed box as karapoosa. The steam softens the hot snack, and the chilli scents the sweet. Two tins. One festival.

A small Deepavali plate is enough: one kajji, one laddu, a handful of mixture. The lamp does not ask for a counter full of sweets.
