Minapa Garelu at Home
మినప గారెలు

Minapa garelu are made from soaked urad dal, ground to a light batter and fried until the ring is deep gold. They are a tiffin food and a travel food, and they are always better when someone else has done the grinding.
When a pack arrives, warm the garelu for a few minutes in a hot pan or a short oven spell if you like the crust louder. They are already cooked. Do not refry them in deep oil unless you want a different snack entirely.
Serve them with coconut chutney, or with a little kandi podi and ghee if the morning is simple. They also sit happily next to a small bowl of avakaya.
